Cartier Santos
Cartier's pioneering pilot's watch, designed in 1904 for Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont. Often credited as the first dedicated wristwatch for men. Defined by its square case with exposed screws and integrated bracelet design.
The Cartier Santos is one of the foundational designs in wristwatch history. Designed in 1904 by Louis Cartier for his friend Alberto Santos-Dumont, the Brazilian aviator who needed a watch he could read while flying without taking his hands off the controls, the Santos is often credited as the first dedicated wristwatch for men (pocket watches still dominated at the time).

The Santos signature elements:
- Square case with rounded corners — a structural reference to Eiffel-era industrial design.

- Santos de Cartier. The current core line, refreshed in 2018 with the QuickSwitch interchangeable bracelet system. Sizes large (39.8 mm) and medium (35.1 mm), various metals.
- Santos-Dumont. Slimmer, dressier interpretation in honour of the original 1904 design. Manual-wind or thin quartz; sized closer to the original.
- Santos 100 (discontinued 2018). Larger, sportier interpretation; collector following.
- Santos Galbée (discontinued). Curved case variant.
Quick-change system
The QuickSwitch bracelet system, introduced 2018, allows owners to swap between the integrated steel bracelet and a leather strap (with deployant clasp) in under a minute, without tools. This was a meaningful innovation in the integrated-bracelet category and has been imitated by other brands since.

The Santos sits in a more affordable tier than Tank precious-metal variants while sharing comparable design heritage. For dealers, Santos inventory has steady demand from buyers who want luxury watch aesthetics without sport-watch pricing pressure.
For authentication, the visible screws on the Santos make it relatively easier to identify modifications and aftermarket parts. Screw heads, polished finish on case corners, and bracelet link details are standard inspection points.
