The Aquanaut is Patek Philippe's sports-rubber-strap watch family, launched in 1997. It was positioned as a more contemporary, accessible companion to the Nautilus, with a similar rounded-octagonal case but a different identity: composite "Tropical" strap (rubber-and-textile), embossed grid dial, smaller size, lower price.

Design notes
The Aquanaut keeps the Nautilus's rounded-octagonal case shape but loses the lateral hinges (the Aquanaut's bracelet attachment is integrated into the case without the Nautilus's distinctive case-back articulation). The dial is embossed with a "Tropical" grid pattern that catches light differently from the Nautilus's horizontal ribbing.
Market history
The 5167A (40mm steel three-handed, 2007-2022) was for years the affordable entry into the Nautilus / Aquanaut universe. When Patek discontinued it in 2022, secondary market premiums jumped to multiples of MSRP. The successor 5267A is priced higher and harder to acquire.
The 5164A Travel Time and 5968A Chronograph are the most-traded current Aquanaut references. They trade at meaningful premiums above retail at authorised dealers.
Aquanaut vs Nautilus
Aquanaut is sportier, more contemporary, with a rubber strap and a different dial language. Nautilus is the heritage piece with the integrated steel bracelet and ribbed dial. Patek positions the two as complementary rather than competing lines.
