Full set

A full set is a pre-owned watch that comes with everything the manufacturer originally shipped: the outer box, inner watch box, warranty card (or guarantee booklet), hangtags, anchor, all bracelet links removed at sizing, the operating manual, and any accessory that was in the original package.

What counts as full set

The exact definition varies slightly by brand but the consensus among professional dealers is:

• Watch itself in working condition.
• Original box (both outer cardboard and inner case where applicable).
• Warranty card filled in with reference, serial, dealer name, and purchase date.
• All removed links plus the spare half-link if one shipped.
• Hangtag with the same reference and serial.
• Manual / operating booklet and any brand-specific paperwork.

Modern Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet also ship a small chronometer card, anchor seal, and (for Patek) a Patek Philippe Seal certificate. Each missing item nudges the watch down from "full set" toward "partial set" or "watch only".

Why it matters

A full-set Submariner 126610LN typically trades at a 5 to 15 percent premium over the same reference as a single watch. For neo-vintage and vintage references the spread is wider — a 1990s Daytona 16520 with original full set can trade at 30 to 50 percent above a watch-only example because the box and papers establish provenance.

For dealers, recording exactly what is in the set on the Ankaufsrechnung and the sale invoice protects both sides. "Full set" without a per-item checklist invites disputes later.

Common dealer shorthand

You will see "FS" in listings and dealer chat as the abbreviation for full set, and "B&P" for box and papers. Both shorthand are used interchangeably with full set in practice, although strictly speaking box and papers is the minimum and full set adds the remaining accessories.
