Vacheron Constantin is a Swiss watchmaker founded in Geneva in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron, making it the oldest continuously-operating watchmaker in the world. One of the three "holy trinity" houses alongside Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet. Owned by Richemont since 1996. Annual production is small (estimated 20,000-25,000 pieces).

Key collections

  • Patrimony: ultra-thin dress watches, the classic Vacheron silhouette.
  • Traditionnelle: traditional Geneva-style dress watches with hand-finished movements.
  • Overseas: sports-luxury family with integrated bracelets. The 4500V and 4520V are the modern sports references.
  • Historiques: heritage-inspired re-editions (Cornes de Vache 1955, American 1921, FiftySix).
  • Métiers d'Art: hand-decorated complications (enameling, engraving, gem-setting).
  • Les Cabinotiers: bespoke single-piece commissions.

Geneva Seal

Most modern Vacheron watches carry the Geneva Seal (Poinçon de Genève), a quality certification with strict criteria for movement finishing, materials, and assembly within Geneva. The Seal is a credentialing mark recognised across high-end Swiss watchmaking.

Notable references

  • 4500V: Overseas 41mm three-handed, current.
  • 4520V: Overseas Chronograph 42.5mm.

  • 6000C: FiftySix self-winding day-date 40mm (heritage line).

Market position

Comparable in market position to Patek and AP at the top of mainstream Swiss luxury. Overseas in steel commands waiting lists at authorised dealers. Secondary market premiums are modest compared to Patek Nautilus but present. Vintage Cornes de Vache and Historiques American 1921 references command auction premiums.

Reference numbering

Vacheron uses a five-digit base reference plus a one-letter material code: 4500V (V = steel-bracelet Overseas), 4520V, 85180/000G-9230 (G = white gold), 1733/000R (R = rose gold).
